Urwerk’s otherworldly new Stardust watch showcases 400 – yes, 400 – diamonds

Urwerk wants to take gaming from your wrist to the universe.

The Swiss watchmaker has just launched a new watch called the UR-100V Stardust, set with 400 brilliant-cut diamonds. The watch joins the brand’s 100 series and features signature satellite hour and minute displays on a skeletonized dial. Like other models in the series, it allows space lovers to witness Earth's interstellar journey in their own unique way.

Each diamond on display has been selected from eight different shapes to adorn the case. Only the edges are exposed. According to the watchmaker, the snowflake setting used in this piece was a challenge to construct due to the steel base, requiring more meticulous workmanship than gold alternatives. The result is a mosaic of diamonds set in a structure that is smooth to the touch. The minute track below the crystal ball is set with 36 diamonds, and the crown is set with 24 diamonds. Another 22 are set in steel pin buckles. These stones are VVS1 certified, color D, and have a total carat weight of almost 1.90 carats in pure carbon.

"We wanted an environment reminiscent of a starry sky, without any unity, more like ordered chaos. It wasn't the size of the stones that mattered to us, but the arrangement of the stones, this near randomness design,” Felix Baumgartner, master watchmaker and co-founder of Urwerk, said in a statement. Martin Frei, the brand's artistic director and second co-founder, also spoke about naming the watch. "It's insane to think that we, as humans, are also made of this celestial matter. So the nickname 'Stardust' is logically relevant to the context of this UR-100V and extends to the watch itself and its future." Owner."

In addition to the diamond constellation, the new UR-100V model features two notches on the sides of the satellite display. One of the two kilometer counters represents the distance the Earth travels around its axis in 20 minutes (554 kilometers). At the same time, another counter shows the distance (35,750 kilometers) the Earth has traveled around the sun in the same time period. Urwerk's self-winding UR 12.02 caliber powers the watch at 28,800 vph and offers a 48-hour power reserve. A "Baltimore Blue" fabric strap completes this cosmic watch.
