A Course in Miracles (ACIM) is an ecumenical spiritual teaching. It uses Christian language but emphasizes that a un curso de milagros universal theology is impossible while a universal experience is not only possible but necessary.

Its unified, nontraditional metaphysics are simple yet carefully conceived. The curriculum it proposes is intended to accelerate change of mind.
The Text

A course in miracles is an amazingly comprehensive self-study spirituality and psychology text that has changed the lives of millions of people. Its principles can seem radical and out of this world, but they are very effective in bringing consistent happiness and peace to those who apply them. The Course makes a fundamental distinction between the real and the unreal; between knowledge and perception, and between truth and illusion. The only truth is God’s law of love, which applies to everything He created. All other laws, whether of fear or anger, do not have the power to change this truth.

The Course is designed to lead us out of the ego’s dream by allowing our minds to awaken to the truth that we are one with God. It teaches that all forms of sin are merely thoughts in the mind that need to be forgiven. It is not a religion, but a way of changing our belief system so that we can realize the happiness and freedom we all deserve.

Its ideas are presented in a remarkably structured way, with the Text (622 pages) laying out the concepts upon which it is based and the Workbook (365 lessons that are given one each day for a year) encouraging the application of the concepts in daily life. In addition to the two books there is also a Manual which provides an explanation of the Course’s metaphysics.

One of the most unique aspects of the Course is its use of Judaeo-Christian language, which is used in a way that is designed to raise our awareness and transcend the ego’s limiting beliefs. Unlike traditional Christianity it does not teach that we need to be saved, but rather that we need to wake up from our sleep and recognize the Love which is all around us.

While the Course is not a religious text, it does describe a type of mysticism which is sometimes referred to as “extrovertive mysticism.” It is this mysticism which is at the heart of its teachings, and which allows the mystic’s mind to be empties of all judgment and fear in order for a new experience to occur.
The Workbook

The workbook of a course in miracles vision is filled with practical lessons designed to help the student apply what they have learned from the Text to their everyday lives. The exercises are meant to prepare and condition the mind so that it can receive knowledge (presence). Knowledge is impossible for a physical mind to perceive, but when the mind can be calm and still enough to lay down its activity of image making, then there is room for it to experience presence.

In the first several weeks of the dictation, the material was more personal to Helen and Bill, much like they were sitting on their couch having a conversation. Often, they would discuss the principles, and Helen would ask questions that Jesus answered. This included some very intimate and personal topics such as sex, family relationships, and Bill’s homosexual relationships. Obviously, this type of material did not belong in the published version. It was also clear that much of this early material reflected Helen’s ego and values, which is why she was able to be so accurate when her ego was not involved.

Kenneth Wapnick has been teaching ACIM since 1977. He is known for the depth of his understanding of the Course’s thought system and for his clarity in explaining it to students. He is one of the most popular teachers of the Course in the world today.

The Course is widely recognized as one of the most successful channeled works to be published in the twentieth century. It has been read and studied by millions of people throughout the world. Despite its immense popularity, there are many misconceptions about what the Course is and how it should be used.

For those who are serious about learning and applying the Course’s teachings, it is recommended that they start by finding a teacher. A good place to begin is with the School for A Course in Miracles, which offers accelerated programs for both students and aspiring teachers of the Course. They also provide a wide variety of books on the subject, including the original Text and the Workbook, as well as the Manual for Teachers.
The Manual for Teachers

The Manual for Teachers is the final book in the Course and it is designed to instruct students of the Text and Workbook who are ready to extend the principles taught therein to others. The Manual for Teachers teaches the application of the theory contained in the Text and Workbook and focuses on teaching and healing at the personal level. It also outlines the functions of a miracle worker in the world, essentially the Course’s version of Christian Science.

Helen was a very loose person and tinkered with the form of the Course, but she never deviated from its meaning or vocabulary. Her intention was always that it be understood as the Word of God, and she made no compromises in this regard.

When you read the Urtext, it is obvious that some of the early material was colored by Helen and her ego. Consequently, there is some confusion and misinterpretation as to what the Course is really teaching. For instance, there is a statement near the beginning of the Urtext that seems to reflect Edgar Cayce’s doctrine that this physical world is a classroom after the separation. However, the rest of the Course is unmistakable in its stance that this world is not real.

The purpose of the Course is to heal the mind and restore it to remembrance of God. The way to do this is through forgiveness of one’s sins and the rejection of all temptations. The first step in this process is the acceptance of Jesus Christ as your Savior. After this, you will be healed of all of your problems and you will recognize that there is only one truth in the world, which is the truth of God.

A Course in Miracles is a profound spiritual teaching that has touched the lives of millions of people around the globe. The Foundation

A Course in Miracles is a set of three books that teach how to undo guilt by forgiving others. It is a profound and life changing spiritual text that has influenced the lives of thousands of people worldwide. Its principles can seem radical and out of this world, yet they are very effective for healing abandonment, victimhood, and other seemingly lifelong problems.

The Course was scribed by Helen Schucman, a Medical Psychology Professor at Columbia University, through a process of inner dictation from 1965 to 1972. It was then edited and published by the Foundation for Inner Peace in 1976. Since then, it has been distributed freely worldwide, without any financial compensation. Over one and a half million copies have been sold, with translations into Chinese, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Russian, and Spanish already completed and twelve more in progress.

While the Course is presented as a Christian teaching, it is ecumenical in its approach. It states that "a universal theology is impossible, but a universal experience is not only possible but necessary." It recognizes that there are many different paths to God, and emphasizes that its purpose is to help you find your own.

One of the primary goals of the Foundation for Inner Peace is to help you deepen your understanding of A Course in Miracles, both conceptually and experientially, so that you can become a more effective instrument of Jesus' healing ministry. To that end, the Foundation provides many resources to support your study and practice of the Course.

Another goal is to provide a structure through which you can share your experiences with other students. In this way, you can support each other in your practice of the Course, and build a community of love that will reinforce your commitment to it.

The Foundation offers workshops, retreats, and a free mailing list, where you can connect with other Course students around the globe. It also maintains a library of audiotapes and transcripts of Course sessions, which are available at no charge. It is through the generosity of Foundation members that these materials are made available to all.
