All Coloradans and tourists share a passion for the great outdoors, whether it's whitewater rafting, summiting fourteen thousand foot peaks, or gazing at wildflowers. As a native (and current) Coloradoan, I've had the pleasure of spending many years taking in the state's breathtaking scenery. These attractions are representative of the state's rich cultural heritage and the wide range of recreational opportunities. Here are 20 of Colorado's top attractions.

While Utah's Arches National Park has the greatest number of natural arches, Colorado's Garden of the Gods is home to the second-most number. And in Colorado, you can view them without having to pay to enter a national park or deal with the crowds. Rattlesnake Canyon drift hunters Arches is a 123,400-acre park with 35 natural arches.

Downtown Denver's appeal cannot be denied, despite Colorado's well-deserved reputation for its natural beauty. With its lovely city block filled with businesses and restaurants, Larimer Square was the city's first local historic district for good cause. Union Station, the city's beating heart, is a mere 10 minutes away on foot from the square.

Seeing a golden eagle fly over a deep canyon is a quintessential Colorado experience. This is a common occurrence in western Colorado's Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park. A deep river valley with vertical cliffs characterises the park's landscape. The Painted Wall cliff, which seems to have been painted with enormous stripes, offers the best view.
