Amenity Kits

j business class passengers enjoy access to extra perks and comforts on board. From the latest inflight entertainment system to generously sized tables and 110V power sockets, these upgrades are designed to provide a comfortable and relaxing flight.

United, Delta, and American Airlines all offer amenity kits on board their j business class cabins. However, the contents of these kits vary.

On its transcontinental routes, American’s Flagship first and business class get amenity kits designed by LA-based shoe company Athletic Propulsion Labs. Both come in a stylish Tumi bag and contain a toothbrush and toothpaste, mouthwash, hand cream from Le Labo, lip balm from Zenology, facial cleansing towelettes from Sunday Riley, ear plugs, eye mask, socks, pen, and a postcard with a city or airport image.

In Delta’s premium economy, a similar kit comes in a Tumi bag and contains the same essentials as the first class one. The only difference is the sleep mask; it’s not as nice as the one in Delta One.

Similarly, on its premium transcontinental flights, United’s abridged business class kit comes in a flimsy plastic bag and contains a toothbrush and toothpaste, mouthwash, lip balm from Zenology, eye mask, ear plugs, and socks. It’s a great way to get comfortable on a long flight without paying the extra fees for a full-fledged amenity kit.

Unlike the other US airlines, American’s Polaris business class kit comes in a dark blue zippered case. It has a pouch that opens on both sides and a separate pocket on the inside for accessories. It contains face and hand creams, lip balm, a facial cleansing towelette from Sunday Riley, and a toothbrush and toothpaste.
Wine

Wines have become a big part of many airline beverage programs, and airlines are working hard to improve the quality of their wine offerings. Some have even enlisted the expertise of master sommeliers to create a wine list that is both delicious and safe to drink on board.

One of the most popular options in j business class is Champagne. But if you’re looking for something different, non-French bubbles like Trentino and Franciacorta are growing in popularity among wine enthusiasts.

While it’s rare for a US-based carrier to offer bubbles on its long-haul international business-class flights, American Airlines recently rolled out the service for its transcontinental routes. Delta also added Prosecco to its inflight beverages program.

Each year, Global Traveler hosts a competition called “Wines on the Wing,” where it invites all airlines that offer long-haul international business-class service to submit their wine lists. A panel of 30 judges then swirl, sip, taste and ponder the wines served by each of these carriers to determine winners.

As a result, we’re seeing more and more airlines offering higher-quality wine in their j business class. The good news is that you can find some of the best-tasting wines on board, including a wide variety of champagnes and reds.

Aside from offering a range of popular and well-balanced wines, many of these airlines also serve more interesting bottles that you may not have found before. For example, British Airways serves a light white wine that’s popular among its business and first class passengers.

Similarly, Lufthansa serves a sparkling white wine that’s made from the Italian grape Glera. It’s available on all of its long-haul transcontinental and international flights, and it’s a great choice if you’re looking for something different to sip.
